I'm saying an honest lead time with a written guarantee beats a vague promise from a lower-priced vendor. Look, I've been burned twice by 'probably on time.' Now I ask, 'Can you commit to that date in writing?' If they hesitate, I plan for more risk.
Step 7: Keep a Mistake Log and Use It
This is the step almost everyone skips. We all think we'll remember what went wrong. You won't. I didn't. After the third avoidable error in Q1 2024, I created a pre-purchase checklist for our team. Every mistake gets documented: what we assumed, what actually happened, what it cost, and what we now do differently.
